Why Do Sales Numbers Differ Between Salla, Meta Ads, Google Ads and GA4?

You may see one sales number in your store, another in Meta Ads, another in Google Ads and another in GA4. That does not automatically mean one system is wrong; each tool measures the customer journey from a different perspective.

The goal is not to force every platform to show the same number. The goal is to understand what each number means and use the appropriate source for each business question.

Practical rule: use the store platform or financial system to understand actual sales, and use GA4 and advertising platforms to understand journeys, attribution and channel performance. Do not add Meta and Google attributed revenue together and call it total sales.

Same period, different numbers

SourceExampleMeaning
Store / financial systemSAR 100,000Actual store sales
Meta AdsSAR 65,000Revenue attributed to Meta under its measurement settings
Google AdsSAR 45,000Revenue attributed to Google Ads
GA4SAR 92,000Revenue recorded by analytics under its setup

Why platforms disagree

Each system has different attribution rules, conversion windows, identifiers, consent behavior and event definitions. Consider a customer who sees an Instagram ad, searches for the brand later, returns directly and then purchases. Multiple platforms may claim a contribution to the same order while the store records one order.

What does the store platform tell you?

Salla, Zid, Shopify or another store platform is usually the closest source to what was actually sold: orders, revenue, order status, products, discounts, cancellations and refunds. It may not tell you precisely which channel caused the purchase when the customer had several touchpoints.

Why does Meta Ads differ?

Meta tries to determine whether Facebook or Instagram advertising contributed to a conversion under the attribution settings being used. Its reported revenue should therefore be read as attributed revenue, not as a unique accounting total.

Why does Google Ads differ?

Google Ads applies its own attribution and conversion settings. A purchase can therefore appear as attributed revenue in Google and also in another advertising platform.

Why does GA4 differ?

GA4 records user behavior and events inside the site or app. Data quality depends on correct ecommerce events, purchase value, currency, consent behavior, UTM parameters and other implementation details.

Which number should you use?

How much did we actually sell?

Use the store platform or financial system.

What happened on the website?

Use GA4 and validated event data.

How does Meta see its campaigns?

Use Meta Ads Manager and its attribution settings.

How does Google see its campaigns?

Use Google Ads and its conversion settings.

Do not let ROAS make the whole decision

Two platforms can both report a strong ROAS while attributing parts of the same sales. ROAS also does not include product cost, shipping, discounts, fees, refunds or operating expenses. Commercial decisions should therefore combine attribution data with actual sales and margin data.

How to reduce measurement discrepancies

  1. Validate GA4 ecommerce tracking, especially the purchase event, value and currency.
  2. Use consistent UTM parameters and campaign naming.
  3. Review Meta Pixel, Conversions API and Google Ads conversion tracking for duplicate events.
  4. Define a clear source of truth for sales.
  5. Analyze channels in one framework rather than reading each platform in isolation.

Frequently asked questions

Should Meta and Google revenue be added together?

No. Attributed revenue can overlap because multiple platforms may receive credit for the same order.

Which system should be the source of truth for sales?

For actual orders and sales, the store platform or financial system is generally the most appropriate reference. Analytics and ad platforms answer different questions.
